The film is based on the director's interest in the biographies of psychiatric patients whose artistic work is part of the Prinzhorn collection. With sequences from 36 hand-painted Laterna Magica film strips from around 1900 and excerpts from medical records, Betina Kuntzsch creates a fictional biography that is hard to beat in terms of clarity.
