Anne Katz

Anne Katz was born in Saxony-Anhalt. After graduating high school, she began gaining experience in the set design and directing departments of various film productions. To study feature film directing at the University of Television and Film (HFF), she moved to Munich, where she has lived ever since. Alongside her work as a director and screenwriter, Anne writes autofictional prose, which she is currently developing into her debut novel. Anne is an active member of the Queer Media Society (QMS).

Balz Spengler

Cultural worker and disability rights activist in Zurich. From 2022 to 2023, he served on the Theater Commission of the City of Zurich, and on the board of IG Rote Fabrik until 2024. Balz is currently working with several collectives on theater projects, as well as for the educational format «Rederei» at Helmhaus. In 2026, Balz will serve as an advisor for «Zürich Access Kultur». From 2015 to 2025, Balz produced the member magazine for the Cerebral Association Zurich as lead editor and layout designer. Through this involvement, he was, among other things, represented on the Citizens' Committee for the Inclusion Initiative.

Michèle Widmer

Michèle Widmer is a Swiss editor and filmmaker focusing on socio-political films, Disability Studies, and chronic illnesses. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Film at ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts) in 2025 and is currently pursuing a Master's in Film Editing (ZHdK). Her theoretical thesis, 'Crip Filmmaking: An Essay on Filmmaking in a Sick and Disabled Body,' was published in 2025 in 'TOTALE – feministisches Filmmagazin'.

What is look&roll?

llook&roll is a short film festival.

The festival is international.

It takes place every two years in Basel.Worum geht es beim Festival?

We're showing short films.
 The films are about living with:

  • Disabilities
  • chronic diseases
  • Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity means that some people’s brains work differently than those of many others.
It is not a disease. It is a natural part of human diversity.
For example, it includes people with:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Dyslexia

Is the festival accessible?

Yes. All film screenings are accessible.

  • Audio description is available.
 Audio description means that a voice describes what is happening in the film.
  • There are subtitles that describe sounds.
  • There is an inductive hearing system for people who wear hearing aids.
  • Sign language interpretation is provided during speeches.
  • The movie theater is wheelchair accessible.
  • There are wheelchair-accessible seats.
  • There is an elevator.
  • There are places to lie down.
  • There is a quiet room.

What is the purpose of the festival?

We want to share stories about disabilities that are rarely told.

We want to experience films together.

We want people with and without disabilities to come together.

What is look&roll on the go?

After the festival, we also screen our films at other venues.
This allows us to reach people who are unable to attend the festival.
