Brianna Deeprose

As a cultural creator and designer, she has been addressing the issues of disability and accessibility for many years, based on her own experience with chronic illness. After training in visual communication, she studied Prozessgestaltung at the HGK FHNW. She also heads the Support Access project at the Kulturbüro Zürich where she develops mediation formats, networking meetings, and knowledge transfer formats.

Nicole Schmid

As a cultural practitioner with a background in literary studies, she works at the intersection of culture and social issues. Alongside her work for look&roll, she is involved with Litar, a foundation for literature and its mediation. As co-director of the intercultural association voCHabular, in surtitling at Schauspielhaus Zurich, and at the literature museum Strauhof, she gained extensive experience in the cultural sector. Her many years working in a cinema also shaped her passion for film.

Balz Spengler

Cultural worker and disability rights activist in Zurich. From 2022 to 2023, he served on the Theater Commission of the City of Zurich, and on the board of IG Rote Fabrik until 2024. Balz is currently working with several collectives on theater projects, as well as for the educational format «Rederei» at Helmhaus. In 2026, Balz will serve as an advisor for «Zürich Access Kultur». From 2015 to 2025, Balz produced the member magazine for the Cerebral Association Zurich as lead editor and layout designer. Through this involvement, he was, among other things, represented on the Citizens' Committee for the Inclusion Initiative.

Lara Derzi

As a social worker specializing in clinical social work, Lara is deeply engaged with topics such as mental illness, disability, and structural barriers within the healthcare and social systems. Her personal experiences as a family member of someone living with Alzheimer's and as a neurodivergent mother shape her perspective on social justice, care work, and concepts of care.

Natalie Berger

she/her

Natalie Berger is a lawyer and heads the Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Prior to that, she worked as a moderator, lecturer, and project manager in the fields of inclusion, participation, and communication, including many years at Radio X. From 2012 to 2020, she was the Coordinator for Diversity and Sustainable Development at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW.

What is look&roll?

llook&roll is a short film festival.

The festival is international.

It takes place every two years in Basel.Worum geht es beim Festival?

We're showing short films.
 The films are about living with:

  • Disabilities
  • chronic diseases
  • Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity means that some people’s brains work differently than those of many others.
It is not a disease. It is a natural part of human diversity.
For example, it includes people with:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Dyslexia

Is the festival accessible?

Yes. All film screenings are accessible.

  • Audio description is available.
 Audio description means that a voice describes what is happening in the film.
  • There are subtitles that describe sounds.
  • There is an inductive hearing system for people who wear hearing aids.
  • Sign language interpretation is provided during speeches.
  • The movie theater is wheelchair accessible.
  • There are wheelchair-accessible seats.
  • There is an elevator.
  • There are places to lie down.
  • There is a quiet room.

What is the purpose of the festival?

We want to share stories about disabilities that are rarely told.

We want to experience films together.

We want people with and without disabilities to come together.

What is look&roll on the go?

After the festival, we also screen our films at other venues.
This allows us to reach people who are unable to attend the festival.
