Define by Ability

How do people define themselves? And how do they define people with disabilities? We usually describe ourselves by listing what suits us, what we can do, and what we make a good impression with. Strangely enough, we forget this procedure when we describe people with disabilities. Then there is usually only talk of what they cannot do or what they lack. Why actually?
